  • Week at the Wilsons

It has been such a great week! It took me a few days to get back into my usual home self. Jet Lag is a terrible and real thing btw. I was so out of it that Mom spent the first two days I was home asking me if I was alright, or if everything was okay. Thursday I went to a revival with Pete and Chuck. It was great to see them again. It had been a whole 3 days. Its amazing how close you get to people when you are with them 24/7.

My Brother Kevin came down for the weekend. I haven't been here the past 2 times he came down. Its been really cool getting to spend time with him. Its also really fun to introduce him as just "Kevin" and watch people try and figure out whats going on. Everyone automatically assumes that he is somebody "special" and their reactions are hysterical to watch.

Please Pray for Patricia and Nancy from the Honduras Missions. They ran away yesterday and last I heard they haven't found them yet.

  • Things I learned on This Honduras Trip.

    1. McDonalds is the essence of American Food. Don't ask me to explain, but it is.
And they have it in Honduras too.
    What? you don't believe me?

    2. No place is like Mo. Only in MO can you, when you plane stops to park on the runway, look out and see cattle.

    3. The Lord is incredible. I saw him do things this week that cannot be explained away. When we were on our way to the airport to leave honduras, the hydraulic lines busted and we pulled over. We were in a hurry to get to the airport in time to go through customs and catch our flight. So lets get a setting here. 18 people broke down, standing in someones front yard, needing to get to the airport in 90 degree weather. All of the sudden I here a very, very southern, english speaking voice that I hadn't heard the intire trip. I look up and there is a white man, who happened to be a baptist preacher missionary, standing there. He knew Mr. Richie (the man who runs the lighthouse) and was there to help. he had a bus, a bigger, better bus, and a driver to take us to the airport.

Think. What are the chances in that we would find an English Speaking Preacher with a bus, just at the right moment. God knew what he was doing and if nothing else, it built up my faith even more.

    4. There is a need. Before I went, I knew in my head there was a need. Now I know in my heart because I've been there and seen it. Once you've seen it, you cannot forget it. At this moment, I can think of nothing I'd rather do than to go back to Honduras.

5.People are people wherever you go, and I cannot live my life waiting for people as perfect as I am to come along and be friends with me. I mean, come on, isn't that how we think? We have to learn to be friends with people, even if we don't agree on everything.

There are many more things, but I'll save them for later.

  • Fireworks!!

Every year we sell fireworks. You know, those great big tents full of explosives? Well thats what we do. You wouldn't believe all the work that goes into it.

When we get to the tent, Its empty, bare, and desolate. Except for the lone porta-jon that becomes your best friend and worst enemy by the time fireworks are over.

First thing, if the grass needs cut, we do that

    100_2612

While that happens, the tall boys start stringing lights

    100_2626

At least they are supposed to.

    100_2628

Then tarps get pulled around the tent. these have to be put up every night and taken down every morning.

    100_2642

Then the other boys start setting up tables.

    100_2634
Then we add bunting, or colored plastic to the edges to make it look holidayish.

    100_2637

Then we open the trailer, get over our overwhelmed state and start unloading fireworks.

    100_2650

And we have a blast putting them on the table. At least the boys had a blast, I was to busy trying to keep them busy.

    100_2652

And finally, when its all said and done, our tent looks like this...

    100_2691

And then we are bored. so bored in fact that we start taking pictures like this.

    100_2727 100_2663 100_2677

But then over the 3rd and 4th we get really busy and don't sit down all day. Its a crazy job.

  • Roxy, a sad story

Last Week, I put Roxy in a round pen, to give her special care, as she had become rather thin over the winter. It worked good for a couple of days, but Sunday, Roxy Coliced. I didn't know at first. We went to church, came home, and started making lunch. Liv came and told me that Roxy was laying down and was acting like she couldn't get up. Well, I went down and looked through the back door and roxy was up, shaking herself as if she had just had a good roll. I thought I had good reasons to brush it off as Livia is our little drama queen here at the house. But after lunch, Livia came and said the same thing. THis time I went out and noticed that she was standing straddle-legged, Her stomach was sucked in tight, she was sweating, and was covered in scrapes from rolling. I imediately got her moving. And after about an hour, I called my dad (Who was driving truck and was on his way to California.) and he told me to keep her moving for then. Well she wasn't getting any better by church time that night. So I called the vet, and she said to give her a shot of Vetamine, and to give her an enema. Stephen adn I stayed home from church and gave her enema after enema. And if you have never given a horse and enema.....its kinda gross. After a couple of enemas, she passed a small amount of feces. But obviously was still not doing well. In fact, she was worst because she began trying to lay down and roll. all this was punctuated by several calls to dad. We were unable to get a dose of Vanamine for her as it was a sunday. When Mom got home from church, we decided to arrange shifts so that we could at least get a little bit of sleep. So we broke it off into one hour shifts. Stephen and I one shift, Donnie and Elijah on another. After hours of walking and riding, dawn finally broke. I called dad again, and he said to turn Roxy loose and let her rest. She did. Laid right down and went to sleep. While she was doing that, I went to town and got some mineral oil and a shot of Vanamine from the vet, who couldn't come out until 4 or 5. I came home, gave her the shot and got a quart of Mineral oil down her. She seemed to start feeling better in about 20 minutes. Then she seemed to get worst, then better. She began gobbling down grass (she hadn't eaten in 2 days) Dad said to let her eat but to still have the vet come out. Finally, after many phone calls and answering machine messages and at 7:00, I got the vet to come out and look at her. He took her tempature, listened to her gut through his stethascope, prounounced her fine, talked for 15 minutes, and charged me 50 dollars. So I turned Roxy loose and went to bed with a light heart. The next day I had to go butcher chickens, and I saw Roxy grazing that morning when I left and that night when I got home.
I didn't get a chance to look in on her Wednesday morning, and that night, when we left for church, Roxy wasn't with the other horses. So Stephen and I stayed home, grabbed Windy and Rainy, and rode out to find her. We found her way back in the woods. Apparently fine, but with a swollen knee from our night of walking her. Since she was fine, Stephen and I headed back to church in the car.
I had to work the next day. I woke up at about 6:30 or 7:00, and stretched, yawned and asked a question that made Stephen think I was totally out of it and still asleep. Then Stephen said he was going out to check on Roxy because she was behind the fence all stretched out. I immediatly got up, and walked out with him.
    She was dead.
With her ears pricked up, her eyes open, she was laid out like she was taking a sun bath. I turned and walked back to the house before I started crying. I called dad, and he arranged to have her buried for me.
I still went to work, it was probably the best thing for me to be gone while they buried her.
I'm still sad. Yesterday at Farmers Market, I was talking about horses with somebody and he said that QH were the best. I started to say that I have 2 paints, and it hit me:"I only have 1 paint now." I was so sad.

But at least I still have my Windy girl.

    Update and pics

We had all the beautiful weather and I couldn't resist getting out with my horse!

    Roxy bit

Sorry the picture is sideways.....Here is what I used for a bit. It was an old headstall that we had and I took the ear piece, and chin strap of and used the bit strap. I used a simple snaffle so that I didn't hurt her mouth on accident and give her a phobia. But she still didn't exactly like the feel of it in her mouth.

    Tongue

It was funny to see her stick her tongue out like that.

After I bitted her and she got used to it, I decided to get on her for a few minutes. She is 20 months old so she can't bear my weight for very long.

It was great. She responded well, and was very eager to please.

I decided to get some more pics of the horses while I was out there.

Camp was really good this year!I had loads of fun. We went swimming, played sports, went to chapel, ate, drank and were merry. I met and got to know a lot of people that I hadn't known before and also met and got to know people that I knew before but hadn't seen in a while. It was fun! Camp too is a great place for people watching. Very Happy

The chapel services were great. Monday and tuesday were rather quiet, But on Wednesday, Brother Gil Gave a minute message on "If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked way....Thats as far as he got because something broke and the spirit of God paid us a visit. By the end of the week, we had had several people, councelors included, bring out their tabacco, cigars, music, ect and get rid of it. We burned several CD's at the Campfire service. It was really good.
Friday night, the last night of camp, I stayed up until 2:45 in the morning. I was planning on staying up all night but Daddy needed my help the next day and didn't want me to stay up all night. I don't think I would have been able to anyway. I had taken some cold medicine and it made me really tired. So there I am sitting in a chair, half asleep, while two friends, Tessa and Amber give me a makeover. It was a disaster. Amber got a little carried away with the eyeliner and I looked like waaayyy Goth. It was awful!

Here's just a few of the pictures I took this week.

Hi Autumn, I love horses too, unfortunatly I don't own one so the last time I've ridden was one day last May; and before then, I hadn't ridden for several years. -Sarah
